Picture this: it’s your typical 1-4 day and you are slugging along. The day could not be moving any slower. The bell rings and to your relief its your favorite part of the day– lunch. You meet up for your friends and are about to grab some grub when to your shock you see a bunch of your fellow students dressed to the nines in Greek from toga to toe. The music starts and a massive dance party erupts in the middle of Fatima Court.

This is Greek Week.

Most of us can look back at our freshman year and one of the first memories that pops up is Greek Week. When asking a couple students about their experience in Greek Week the answers were very similar. Junior Madeline Friedrich told me about her experience with Greek Week, “I had Mrs. Brooks and I remember dressing up on the last day. It was kind of weird but honestly it got me a lot closer to my fellow classmates.” She later told me about how she loves watching what the other English classes did during the week and that it was definitely a fun week. This year’s Greek Week is no different. It will include the days we all remember from freshman year along with some surprises and goodies. This year’s activities include a Greek god fashion show led by Zeus himself and our faithful helper Bob Adams, Security Guard. Thursday, everyone’s favorite ‘The Trojan War in Ten Minutes’ will be done on this day the whole school is invited to dress up and get their Greek on. Mrs. Kelleher was very excited to work and get interviewed by The Crusader. She was very excited and busy preparing for this year’s Greek Week. When asked about her favorite parts of Greek Week it was a very hard decision, “This is a hard question. I can remember before we ever had Greek Week teaching my class and having them be so excited. I decided to go and have them share this excitement with the whole school. My favorite part is the fact that it is almost like a welcoming to the freshman and that they feel way more at home once the week is over.” Junior Magy Sanz was bursting with energy while talking about Greek Week. “It was defiantly one of my top memories from freshman year. It is the best amazing super duper week of the year! My class had so much fun and Mrs. Kelleher defiantly made it special and perfect.

Greek Week is Mater Dei’s unique way of welcoming our freshman while educating everyone. This exciting week is not one to be missed so if you missed it last year make sure to stop by. And if you miss it again this year remember there is always next year to get your Greek on!
