Jarrod Rieta is a 16-year-old Junior and quarterback of MDCHS football team. He started playing football in the second grade and hasn’t stopped since. Football is his passion, and he believes that playing as a team is key to win. His motto is “OTF– Only The Family” and his motivation is to get a scholarship so that his parents do not need to pay for his college education. “MDCHS has given me lots of opportunities to succeed, as well as the support from my coaches and teachers,” he says.

As a student with an overall GPA of 3.89, his advice for other students who want to succeed both academically and in sports is “Never quit and keep fighting hard, because it will always pay off”, and “surround yourself with good people”. He thinks that having athlete friends who care about school is essential in getting good grades. His favorite classes are math and physics. His dream school is the University of Southern California (USC) and he wants to study personal accounting.

As a football player, he says that being a quarterback has its ups and downs and, even though he gets a lot of pressure, no feeling in the world that can compare to the glory of making a touchdown.

He practices two to three hours daily and on Saturdays from nine to eleven AM.  After practice he does two to three hours of homework and still manages to sleep before 11 am. MDCHS has helped him become a very organized person, he has a schedule that shapes him into a very productive student and he thinks that this quality is going to help him throughout his life. Jarrod is a proud Crusader and MDCHS is proud to have him in the family. He is a great example for students. He inspires hope and achievement and is living proof that with God and effort one can achieve everything he or she imagines.
