On November the 18th the Mater Dei Crusaders prepped to face Otay Ranch high school who, in week six, gave the crusaders an uphill battle where they barely got the win 21-20.

Going into the game coach Izidoro, the linemen coach, said “Winning is the plan. We need to get our blocks and win off the line.” In the previous game Otay’s game plan was to stop the run. They succeeded and CJ Verdel was held to 15 carries with only 69 yards.

For this game, the coaching staff had one plan, to get the run going during the first half. The Crusaders ran up the score and went into the locker room with a 28-0 lead. The plan had worked the running game opened up the rest of the field CJ was able to run up his stats to 107 in the game compared to 69 yards in the first game.

Spectators were calling the game boring in comparison to the last Otay game, “I came to the game expecting an all-out brawl” said senior Emily Miller. The dominating Crusader defense held Otay to zero points until the final quarter and the offense ran up the score getting the Crusaders the win they need to advance to the CIF semi-finals. The final score was 34-7 making this another Crusader win.

Friday the 25Th Mater Dei will face Bonita High school at Mater Dei in the CIF Division II Semi-Finals. Come and support the Crusaders into the finals.

The winner of that game will play the winner of the Poway vs Olympian game December 2nd in the Division 2 championship game.
