For the first time in years, the Mater Dei Choir will be taking their Christmas performance outside of campus.
The yearly tradition usually consists of a concert at the Kassebaum Theater during the “Christmas at Mater Dei Celebration.” This year, instead of performing for parents, students, teachers, and other guests, they will be performing at a retirement and health care center. The choir director, Mr. Rosales, states that he is “excited [for the choir] to go out to the community and showcase our talent outside, not just at school.”
The Mater Dei Choir will be bringing back some of the songs they’ve been singing for years such as “Merry Christmas Darling,” but most songs are new additions to their repertoire. One of the most beautiful pieces they will be singing is “Adore,” an arrangement of an original song and “O Come Let Us Adore Him.” Other songs in the choirs’ performance include “Charlie Brown Christmas”, “My Gift for Him”, “A Bit of Holiday Cheer”, “Christmas Peace Canon”, and Kelly Clarkson’s “Underneath The Tree”.
The current president of the Choir Club, Jonas Bongulto, states that his favorite part of choir, “after we learn a song really well and you hear the harmonies all together, it sounds really beautiful.” Currently, there are around 20 members in the Mater Dei Choir, but they look forward to having new members join them for their spring performance at Six Flags.
The choir will be showcasing their Christmas performance again on December 15, 2016, at 1580 Broadway, El Cajon, CA. Everyone is welcome to come enjoy the show!
