Eighth-grade visitation has been at Mater Dei for many years but lately there have been changes. Last year, the 8th-grade students had a presentation at the theatre, snacks and a rally for only them at the school gym. This year, the visiting classes had a presentation by ASB in the theater, snacks, the rally with the entire school and a carnival at the senior lawn, an amazing day that took lots of hard work and planning.

“It took us two and a half weeks… It’s a big event with a lot of different pieces, many different people.” Says Alejandra Saavedra, the director of Marketing. She comments how the event took many different people to be able to plan as big and fun. Saavedra says the goal for this year was to show the 8th-grade class what is it like to be a crusader.

This year, to make it more involved for the prospective Crusaders and show them all that Mater Dei has to offer they added an amazing all-school rally, a carnival, and many games for the school visitors. ASB moderator Ms. Leon explains, “Ms. Saavedra pretty much came up with the ideas of what they wanted to do, they wanted to change the 8th-grade visitation from what it was, so they wanted the 8th graders to have a more fun experience.”

While many were involved in making the day go smoothly, Leon and Johnson were called in to focus on the rally. “They brought me in and Coach Johnson to get involved to try to figure that out. It was a really big success.”

Later, there was an all-school rally with music and competitions to see what class has the most spirit.

The day took long planning from school staff and ASB. “In ASB we took a long time planning the 8th-grade visitation, we wanted it to be like the open house and we wanted it to be fun.” commented Preston Muñoz, sophomore that takes part in ASB. His second year in ASB, Muñoz explains how they really wanted to make the visitation day much more fun than any other year.

To end the day, there was a carnival with games and activities for them. Many of the booths were taken care of by club leaders, teachers, sports, arts, campus ministry, and science programs.

Everyone who participated or assisted the event had a lot of fun with all the activities and games that took place. At the carnival the visitors had activities like face paint, food, shirts, fair games, and others like making slime with the science academy, ceramics, launching aired pressured rockets, and drone challenges.

“I like a lot of the activities here, there’s a lot of stuff to do and the people are very welcoming to the 8th graders and it seems like a very nice environment to be at.” Says Tom Miguel from Our Lady of Grace school. Tom commented that he enjoyed the visitation day.

“We love the friendly and energetic environment and the science program. Also, the variety of sports that the school offers.” Comments a group of girls from St. Kieran

The 8th grade visitation day was a complete success and hopefully helped future and current Crusaders enjoy everything Mater Dei offers.
