On Thursday, March 15, 2018 students from Mater Dei Catholic High School were inducted to the National Honors Society. These students are inducted into the National Honor’s Society for their hard work, dedication, and their leadership skills.

According to the National Honors Society website it is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. NHS works and serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since the beginning in 1921.

Justin Carreon, sophomore, and a member of the National Honors Society said, “I feel honored and pleased with myself that all my hard work has paid off.” Even though, Carreon was inducted as a member on March 15 he said, “I have worked extremely hard these past 2 years and I plan to keep pushing myself to continue to do great things and be the student I know I can be….I also worked hard because as an athlete I had to be determined to get good grades and I also pushed myself because I wanted to make my family proud” Carreon said.

As new students are welcomed into the National Honors Society, Andrea Alonso, senior member of NHS exclaimed “I worked harder than my past years to try and receive this honor of being in such a great program because I knew junior year was a critical year, and because junior year was also a year that universities start paying even more attention to everything you do.” She is still working hard because “I know that the work that my teachers assigning now is nothing compared to the work I will be given in college, so I need to push myself to do absolute best.”

Students looking to try and be inducted into the National Honors Society Alonso shared “Some advice that I would give for those students looking for an award like this is to never give even thought it made get hard at times and frustrating with all the work given, and don’t stop putting in your full effort with great energy.”

Congratulations to all the inductees, great job!
